Nigerian forward Tony Nwakaeme has finally opened his goal account for Trabzonspor, but his effort was not enough to secure a win as they settled for a frustrating 2-2 home draw against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig.
After seven league appearances without a goal, the one-cap Super Eagles star broke his drought on matchday 15 at Papara Park on Friday evening, coming off the bench to grab his first goal, footballrover reports.
Nwakaeme opens scoring account for Trabzonspor
Tony was introduced as a second-half substitute, replacing Denis Dragus at the start of the half. At that point, the hosts were trailing 1-0, following a 38th-minute penalty converted by Kasimpasa’s Cafu.
In the 79th minute, Simon Banza drew the home team level after converting from the penalty spot as well.
Just two minutes later, the Nigerian forward found the back of the net with a clinical finish to give the Black Sea Storm a 2-1 lead, raising hopes of a much-needed win.
Kasimpasa’s late fightback denies Trabzonspor
However, the celebrations were short-lived. Kasimpasa’s Nuno Da Costa struck in the 91st minute to snatch a point for the visitors.
The drama didn’t end there, just when Kasimpasa thought they had scored a winner moments later, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
The draw leaves Karadeniz Fırtınası in 12th place with 16 points, level with Kasimpasa, who are in 13th.
Trabzonspor’s form woes persist
The result highlights the struggles of Nwakaeme and his teammates this season. With just one win in their last six matches—four defeats and one draw—the team has failed to capitalise on opportunities.
Next challenge: Facing Galatasaray
Trabzonspor now faces a daunting task against league leaders Galatasaray in their next fixture.
With Galatasaray enjoying a stellar run, the match promises to be a difficult hill to climb for the struggling side.
