Anthony Nwakaeme, one of the Turkish Super Lig’s most consistent attackers, is facing yet another injury setback this season.
The 35-year-old forward, who rejoined Trabzonspor at the start of the current campaign, has struggled with a series of injuries that have kept him from making the desired impact, Footballrover reports.
With his third of the season, the Nigerian forward’s participation in Trabzonspor’s upcoming match against Çaykur Rizespor is now in doubt.
The forward, who is the second-highest goal scorer in Super Lig history for Nigeria, had been a fan favorite during his first spell at Trabzonspor.
Anthony Nwakaeme’s third injury of the season: What lies ahead?
He scored 47 goals and provided numerous assists across 145 official appearances, establishing himself as one of the league’s most reliable attackers.
However, since his return to the club after a two-season absence, his form has faltered.
In 10 appearances so far, he has failed to score or provide an assist, accumulating only 449 minutes of play across domestic and European competitions.
The injury troubles began in late August for the one-cap Super Eagles star when he suffered a muscle strain in his left leg during training.
The ailment kept him out of crucial matches, including UEFA Conference League ties and several important league fixtures.
Though he made a brief return to action, the former Al-Fayha striker was sidelined again with a second muscle injury, this time missing matches against Atakaş Hatayspor and Başakşehir.
Despite a brief return to the pitch in mid-September, the Nigerian star’s latest damage, a groin problem, has ruled him out once again.
As the season progresses, the questions surrounding his fitness and future impact at Trabzonspor grow more urgent.
Fans will be hoping to see the veteran forward can overcome his ongoing injury setbacks.
