Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen continued his impressive form this season, delivering a double assist to inspire Galatasaray to a dominant 5-1 home victory over Eyupspor in their Turkish Super Lig clash on Friday evening.
Osimhen set up both the opening goal and the third, as Galatasaray comfortably secured the five-star win in their Round 22 encounter at RAMS Park, Footballrover reports.
Victor Osimhen Sets Up Early Goals for Galatasaray
The Nigerian international’s two assists marked his third of the season, taking his total goal contributions to 12 in 15 Super Lig appearances.
It took the 27-year-old Nigerian forward barely two minutes to set up Yunus Akgün for the opening goal of the encounter.
Osimhen swung the ball deep into the box, finding an unmarked Yunus Akgün, whose close-range header flew past the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner.
Just three minutes after the half-hour mark, Mauro Icardi was in the right place at the right time to latch onto a rebound inside the box, rifling the ball into the top of the net to double the home team’s lead.
Five minutes later, the visitors’ misery worsened as they were reduced to ten men. Bedirhan Ozyurt was sent off for a foul committed earlier in the game.
Two minutes after that, Osimhen had a golden opportunity to make it 3-0. He found space near the penalty spot and headed goalwards, but the effort lacked both power and accuracy, sailing well over the bar.
Galatasaray took a 2-0 lead into the break, and barely two minutes after the restart, Osimhen delivered his second assist to hand the Lions a commanding 3-0 lead.
A precise cut-back from the goal line found Icardi, who calmly slotted the ball low into the middle of the net.
Icardi Hat-Trick and Osimhen’s Impact Seal Galatasaray Win
In the 70th minute, Icardi completed his hat-trick to make it 4-0. Baris Yilmaz teed him up inside the box, and the striker kept his cool to find the bottom left corner.
The visitors, however, pulled one back almost immediately. Metehan Altunbas tapped home from close range after a rebound fell kindly into his path.
Osimhen thought he had added to the score, but the assistant referee raised his flag, and VAR confirmed he was offside, nullifying what would have been the fifth goal.
Undeterred, Galatasaray pressed on, and Jerome Onguene suffered some misfortune by inadvertently deflecting a pass from an attacking player into his own net, sealing the emphatic 5-1 victory for the home side.
Although he did not score, Osimhen played a key role in the 6-goal thriller and securing the victory.
The win keeps him and his teammates firmly in control at the top of the table as they build momentum ahead of their next fixture—a Champions League clash with Juventus on Tuesday.
