Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is at a crossroads in his career after recently leaving South African side Chippa United.
With no club currently, speculation is rife about where the 29-year-old shot stopper will play next, Footballrover reports.
Stanley Nwabali Open to Any Opportunity
Nwabali had earlier confirmed that he is open to both local and international moves while speaking on the Sports Nights Amplified with Andile Ncube podcast.
“I can play anywhere I want to play; there is no restriction. I am open to any club, local or international. There are no calls yet. The only calls are from my family and friends and people who are shocked at the news,” he stated.
This level-headed approach has only intensified the curiosity surrounding his next destination.
However, former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peterside Idah has openly encouraged Nwabali to consider a temporary move to Nigeria Premier Football League side Rivers United.
Posting on Facebook, Idah wrote, “Nwabali, come to Rivers United and help our team until you have another team. We need help.”
The suggestion comes at a critical time for the Finidi George side, who are tied on 41 points with NPFL leaders Ikorodu City, despite playing four games fewer.
Their continental record has been less impressive, with just one point from five CAF group matches and a 7–1 aggregate defeat to Egyptian giants Pyramids.
A Short-Term NPFL Move Would Not Be Unprecedented
High-profile returns by Super Eagles players to the NPFL have proven popular in recent times.
Brown Ideye joined Enyimba, while Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi rejoined Kano Pillars.
These moves, often following AFCON or World Cup appearances, are celebrated and provide a boost to domestic football.
For Nwabali, regular football remains a priority after rising to prominence during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire and keeping the number one shirt at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
A temporary stint with the Pride of Rivers could offer him consistent game time while keeping his career options open, making it a move worth watching closely.
