David Okereke opened his season’s account for Gaziantep in a dramatic Turkish Super Lig clash against Kayserispor, but his first goal wasn’t enough to secure a much-needed win for the visitors.
The 27-year-old Nigerian striker fired Gaziantep into the lead just 22 minutes into the match, setting the stage for what promised to be an intense battle at the RHG Enertürk Enerji Stadyumu in Kayseri, Footballrover reports.
However, the visitors were unable to maintain their advantage, and despite scoring twice, they had to settle for a 2-2 draw after Kayserispor fought back.
Okereke scores, but Gaziantep’s struggles continue
Despite Okereke’s early goal, Gaziantep’s hopes of claiming their second win of the season were dashed.
Aylton Boa Morte quickly levelled the score for the home side just two minutes after Okereke’s opener.
Before halftime, Kacper Kozlowski restored Gaziantep’s lead with a well-taken goal, giving the visitors a 2-1 edge.
But Kayserispor showed resilience after the break, with Miguel Cardoso finding the equaliser 12 minutes into the second half, securing the 2-2 draw and extending Gaziantep’s winless streak to six league matches.
Gaziantep entered the contest following a 1-1 draw with Besiktas, hoping to build momentum and climb out of the lower half of the table.
However, with just one win, four defeats, and three draws, they remain stuck in 16th place, struggling to find consistent form.
They will now have to prepare for their next fixture against Konyaspor, as Okereke and his teammates will keep searching for their elusive second win of the season, hoping to turn their fortunes around and rise in the Turkish Super Lig standings.
