Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme has marked his return to Trabzonspor with a brilliant contribution, helping the team secure a dramatic 2-2 draw against Kayserispor on Thursday.
After rejoining his former club following a stint in Saudi Arabia, Nwakaeme displayed why he remains a fan favourite in Trabzon, Footballrover reports.
The match at Papara Park started off on a disheartening note for Trabzonspor.
Kayserispor’s Hasan Ali Kaldırım struck first in the 12th minute, leaving the home team frustrated early into the game.
This early setback was compounded when Kayserispor were awarded a penalty; unfortunately, 30-year-old defender Joseph Attamah missed the spot kick.
But the visitors were undeterred.
In the 63rd minute, Aylton Boa Morte doubled their lead, leaving Trabzonspor staring at a seemingly insurmountable challenge.
However, the story was far from over. With the clock winding down and spirits low, Trabzonspor found a spark of hope.
Umut Bozok netted a crucial goal with just a minute left in regular time, reigniting the crowd’s energy and belief.
And there came Nwakaeme, who was subbed in for Enis Bardhi at the start of the second half.
The 35-year-old forward wasted no time making his mark.
With the pressure mounting and time slipping away, Nwakaeme delivered a perfectly timed assist to Stefano Denswil, who equalised with virtually the last kick of the game.
Despite playing only 45 minutes, Nwakaeme’s statistics tell the story of a player determined to make a difference.

He recorded 43 touches, completed 22 of 28 passes for a 79% success rate, and created one big chance.
His defensive contributions were equally impressive, with two interceptions and five ground duels won.
But then, this draw has left Trabzonspor in a precarious position, still without a win in their last five outings.
They’ve managed to salvage four consecutive league draws, with one defeat, which came in Conference League qualifiers.
Currently sitting in 12th place with just four points, the team will be eager to turn their fortunes around.
Their next challenge comes against Gaziantep in the Turkish Super Lig Round 6, where Nwakaeme’s leadership will be crucial once more.
