Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Chelsea, has stated that he hopes to add more players during this transfer window in order to take the Blues to a “new level.”
Tuchel has emphasized numerous times that Chelsea are going through a change as a result of Todd Boehly becoming club owner, but he is unwilling to lower his standards.
After Saturday’s tenacious 1-0 victory against Everton, Tuchel stated that the west Londoners are still trying to sign more players this month in an interview with Sky Sports.
“If we can add, we add. Maybe not necessarily midfielders as the first option but we are open for everything and I think we can use new energy, new legs and fresh input to bring us to a new level. If not, then we will push this team but I think we could use some input and more quality. We are on it but we will not tell you!” – He said.
The Blues new recruits – Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly both made their debuts in the victory at Goodison Park, but the former was forced off with cramp and was unable to complete full 90 minutes of encounter.
Speaking further about the game, Tuchel said;
“We played with Ben Chilwell who was not, for me, 100% ready to start but the situation with Marcos Alonso and the late signing of Marc Cucurella made it necessary that we took the risk. Well, we were joking at half-time and saying maybe it is a typical Chelsea game we win 1-0 and Jorgi scored with a penalty. It is what it is. I think Raheem [Sterling] will lift Kai [Havertz], Mason [Mount] and [Christian] Pulisic up.“
Marc Cucurella, who just joined the Thomas Tuchel side and officially moved to Stamford Bridge on Friday, also made a huge impact while coming off the bench.
Thomas Tuchel has this to say in reference to Chelsea’s debutants;
“Koulibaly struggled with the physicality because he came late [into pre-season] and lacks a bit of training. Raheem was very strong, struggled also physically in the end. I was very happy with the 20 minutes from Cucurella. It was very strong and very important for us.” – Thomas Tuchel said.
