44-year-old Chelsea icon Florent Malouda has encouraged the Blues to reignite their pursuit of Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen when the January transfer window opens.
Despite coming close to securing the Napoli forward in the summer, the deal fell through, with Osimhen opting for a season-long loan to Turkish giants Galatasaray, Footballrover reports.
Malouda, who remains a beloved figure at Stamford Bridge, is confident that the West London club should revisit negotiations for the 25-year-old forward.
Osimhen, widely regarded as one of the top talents in world football, has the potential to significantly strengthen Chelsea’s attacking options.
Speaking on the potential deal, the former Chelsea winger emphasised Osimhen’s ability to elevate the team’s quality.
Malouda highlighted how close Chelsea came to signing the Nigerian star during the last transfer window and stressed that such a move would strengthen the squad’s chances of competing at the highest level.
“If there is an opportunity to bring him in in January, then I think the club has to look at it. From what I’ve read, he will cost less than the numbers that were quoted in the summer—the fee is reportedly in the region of £70 million,” he said.

Malouda firmly stated,
“Chelsea should be competing for the world’s best players. Osimhen is in that category. You want to see the club add more quality to its team because that is what every ambitious club does, and his addition would bring Chelsea a step closer to the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.”
As for Osimhen himself, there are strong indications that he remains open to a move to Stamford Bridge.
The striker hinted at his interest, noting that Chelsea may explore the possibility of signing him in January.
He added that he would be excited if the club made an approach, as many developments could unfold in the months leading up to the window.
