Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of Raheem Sterling from their Premier League counterpart – Manchester City.
Personal terms were already agreed days ago, after Tuchel had direct conversation with him and it was never an issue for Sterling who signed a 5-year deal until 2027 worth £45 millon plus £10m add-ons.
The deal also contain option for further year.
Sterling was expected to join the Blues before they travelled on Saturday to the US for their pre-season tour, making him the first high-profile signing under the new ownership at Stamford Bridge.
The signing of Sterling would obviously be a big help to Thomas Tuchel, who has had positive discussions with the England international on how he intends to utilise him.
After having allowed Romelu Lukaku to head back to Inter Milan on loan, the Blues clearly needed to strengthen their attack. They lacked ruthlessness in their last campaign.
Sterling, who joined City from Liverpool in 2015 and has since won four Premier League trophies, will look to strengthen Chelsea’s competitive edge.
The 27-year-old forward grabbed 17 goals last season and prompted serious interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.
Sterling has chosen to leave City, who recently sold Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal for £45 million, in order to play more frequently.
Over the past two years, he hasn’t been a consistent starter in Pep Guardiola’s team.
Prior to his move to Stamford Bridge, Sterling did not fall out with City, and will surely appreciate Pep Guardiola for helping sharpen his tactical knowledge, and his mentality is not influenced by big money move.
Chelsea head coach – Thomas Tuchel has also assured Sterling, whose £300,000 per week contract at City would have expired next year, that he will play an important role for the Blues.
On Sunday night in London, Raheem Sterling finished the majority of his medical tests, and he signed a deal with Chelsea that runs through June 2027 with an additional season option.
