Strong rumours have been swirling that Liverpool’s right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, is negotiating to buy Simon Moses’ club, FC Nantes.
Speculation suggested that Alexander-Arnold, backed by an investment fund, submitted a whopping €100 million bid for the French Ligue 1 outfit, Footballrover reports.
Rumors of €100 Million Takeover Dismissed
However, Footballrover understands that these rumours may not hold water.
Despite all the excitement, Trent Alexander-Arnold is not actually in the running to purchase Nantes, debunking the claims of a €100 million takeover bid.
French media had initially ignited the excitement with reports of Alexander-Arnold leading an ambitious charge, alongside his father, to acquire the club from its current owner, Waldemar Kita.
The rumoured deal included an €80 million upfront payment, supplemented by a €20 million seller credit and additional performance-based bonuses totalling around €40 million.
There were even hints that the Premier League star might even be eyeing other French clubs, such as Saint-Etienne and Le Havre.
However, these claims have been dismissed as having no base at all.
Footballrover gathered from Liverpool Echo that sources close to Alexander-Arnold have firmly denied any plans to purchase the club, labelling the rumours as completely false.
Nantes’ Future Still Uncertain Despite Denials
While the idea of Trent stepping into the role of club owner has been quashed, the future of Nantes itself remains uncertain.
Kita has previously expressed a willingness to sell, opening the door for potential buyers.
Currently, Nantes sits fifth in Ligue 1, having started the season positively with two wins from their opening four matches.
They are set to face Angers away this weekend, aiming to build on their solid start.
On the other hand, while Alexander-Arnold won’t be adding “club owner” to his resume just yet, he is faced with an important decision regarding his own future.
With his contract at Liverpool expiring at the end of the season, the right-back could leave the club for free next summer.
Rumours have surfaced linking him to Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are keen on securing his services as they target other Premier League stars as well.
