Arsenal players and their fans are facing a moment of pain and disappointment as the team suffered a double blow, being eliminated from two major competitions in a single night, following their narrow defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Arsenal’s Champions League dream run came to a crashing halt on Wednesday night after a narrow defeat to Bayern Munich, Footballrover reports.
The Gunners were knocked out of Europe’s elite competition after a 1-0 loss at the Allianz Arena, which sealed a 3-2 aggregate defeat.
Joshua Kimmich’s second-half header proved to be the difference-maker, sending Bayern through to the semi-finals.
The Gunners failed to breach the Bundesliga side’s defence, resulting in Bayern’s advancement to the semi-finals.
Obviously not the result the Premier League side wanted but the defeat also means Arsenal’s elimination from the Club World Cup.
As other teams celebrate their advancement, including RB Salzburg, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and more, Arsenal finds themselves out of contention in both competitions.
This loss piles on the pressure for Mikel Arteta’s side, whose Premier League title challenge also faltered recently.
