Alex Iwobi is not a happy man after Everton suffered a 0-1 defeat to Chelsea during their Premier League opener on Saturday evening, but firmly believes that there are many positives to draw from the defeat even as they were hoping to start their new season on a high note.
Despite giving it his all throughout, Alex Iwobi was unable to stop the Frank Lampard’s team from losing to the Blues. The Blues took all three points away from Goodison Park, even as Iwobi displayed some moments of brilliance.
The Nigerian international was the focal point of Everton’s midfield and distinguished himself out amid his team’s narrow Premier League loss to Thomas Tuchel’s side on Saturday.
The Super Eagles midfielder provided a valiant effort for Everton, but at the end of the final whistle, Chelsea won 1-0 thanks to a Jorginho penalty in the first half.

The 26-year-old midfielder who has earned a spot in Frank Lampard’s starting lineup was active all over the field and received praises from the home crowd everytime he was in possession of the ball.
A scoreless halftime appeared to be in store for the Toffees, however, Abdoulaye Doucoure’s careless foul gave the Blues a penalty.
Chelsea specialist in penalties, Jorginho, successfully converted from the spot and misdirected Pickford.
Despite the fast tempo with which both teams started off the second half, none of them managed to find the back of the net.
Nevertheless, despite Everton’s determination and stunning display, the Blues were somewhat the superior side and held out for a 1-0 victory.
Shortly after the game, Alex Iwobi took to his Twitter page to say;
“A Lot Of Positives To Take.”

? “I thought Alex Iwobi was brilliant in the number six role. Because of his attitude, personality and humility, it doesn’t matter [where he plays]. I thought him and Abdoulaye Doucoure played very well in midfield today.” – Lampard added
Chelsea secured a successful start to the season. Everton, on the other hand, would be looking to bounce back and beat Aston Villa the following week to record their first victory of the 2022–23 season.
