Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has made a bold statement, declaring his team’s intention to win the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title this season over his counterpart, the coach of Rangers.

This comes after Enugu Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu downplayed his team’s chances, saying they are still building and not focused on the title, Footballrover reports.

The Ikenne-based club closed in on the league leaders, Rangers, after claiming a vital three points at home against Rivers United on Monday.

Recall that Remo Stars’ 2-1 comeback win over the Stanley Eguma side brought them within one point of the NPFL table toppers.

Ogunmodede’s team showed remarkable resilience, equalising in the 67th minute through Hadi Haruna and scoring the winner in the dying minutes of the game through Franck Elie Kwame Mawuena.

When asked about their title chances following their victory over the Pride of Rivers, Coach Ogunmodede revealed that the Remo Stars would put up a strong effort to win the title.

“I think it [NPFL Trophy] is in view because my friend [Fidelis Ilechukwu] said they are still building, so we are trying to capitalise on the fact that they are building and we are trying to get the trophy,” he said.

This statement throws shade at Ilechukwu’s claims and asserts Remo Stars’ determination to win.

The last season’s second-place finishers, Remo Stars, are hungry for the title.

With six games remaining, they have three home games against Kano Pillars, Heartland, and Katsina United and three away games against Lobi Stars, Kwara United, and Sunshine Stars.

Can they capitalise on Rangers’ perceived weakness and take the trophy? The NPFL title race just got more interesting.
