At just 19 years old, Wisdom Ndon etched his name into the record books of Akwa United by becoming the club’s youngest goalscorer in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
However, the bittersweet nature of the feat was palpable, as his first-half strike couldn’t prevent a 2-1 loss to Rivers United, Footballrover reports.
Ndon’s historic goal wasn’t just a personal milestone; it also saw him land the title of youngest defender to score in the league this season and the youngest defender to find the net for Akwa United since 1996—a clear indication of his rising stardom.
Despite the emotional rollercoaster, Ndon admitted to feeling a mix of pride and disappointment.
“I am very unhappy because I scored my first goal for Akwa United, but it did not secure three points. It was unjust that we lost because both of Rivers United’s goals were a common mistake,” he said.
The young centre-back, however, refused to let the scoreline dampen his spirits.
He firmly believes Akwa United could have bagged more goals, pointing to several unlucky post-hits.

Ndon also highlighted his constant efforts to improve and contribute to the team’s scoring, particularly during set-pieces.
Disappointment for the lost points aside, Ndon commended his team’s fighting spirit and urged them to hold their heads high.
For Ndon, the match transcended mere statistics.
He described it as “deeply special,” cherishing the opportunity to play for Akwa United and attributing his recent development to the club and his teammates.
Now, the focus shifts to rebuilding confidence and channelling frustration into the next challenge for the defender and his teammates.
