Former Sporting Lagos head coach Paul Offor has shed light on the circumstances that led to his sudden departure from the club.
This comes after Footballrover confirmed his dismissal following the team’s underwhelming performance in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Footballrover reports.
Offor’s tenure ended dramatically after matchday 30, with the team languishing in 11th place on the table, having amassed just 38 points from 30 games.
His dismissal was announced shortly after a narrow 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena—a match that left many fans frustrated with the team’s inconsistent form and underwhelming home performances.
In a recent appearance on Abu Azeez podcast, Offor offered insights into his controversial decisions during his time at Sporting Lagos, which he believes ultimately cost him his job.
Coach Offor noted that when you come into a team as a coach, sometimes you have to make radical decisions, and obviously, all your decisions won’t favour everybody.
Upon joining the Tech Boys, Offor claimed that he observed that the squad required significant changes, which led to a comprehensive clear-out of players.
“I don’t think I was forgiven for that,” he lamented.
Offor acknowledged that his decisive actions may have unsettled many within the club.
Despite the backlash, he stands by his choices.
“I’m happy with those decisions I took then,” he affirmed.
Offor’s dismissal paved the way for former Kwara United coach Abdulahi Biffo to take over the reins at Sporting Lagos for the remainder of the season.
