NLO youngster Patrick Adeoluwanimi Akhidenor-Solanke has named Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as his idols after making history in the 2024 Nationwide League One season.
The 14-year-old became the youngest player to score a goal in the 2024 New Year Mega Lottery/NLO season, Footballrover reports.
This remarkable feat has drawn attention to the talented youngster, who has named global football icons Messi and Ronaldo as his idols.
A product of Provazios Sports Academy, owned by his father Segun Solanke, Patrick has been making waves in the football scene since he joined the academy at the age of four.
His dedication and hard work have paid off, as he captained his team, Olumo United Football Club, at the NLO Sagamu Centre and scored an impressive goal against Lasegski FC at the FC Ebedei Stadium.
Patrick’s ambition is to win the coveted Balon d’Or, and he believes that with persistence and discipline, he can achieve his dream.
In an interview with The Nation in 2023, Patrick revealed how his father keeps inspiring him to win the Balon d’Or with the example of George Weah, the only African footballer to have achieved this feat.
“Like my idols Messi and Ronaldo, I believe that with more hard work, discipline, perseverance, dedication, and focus, I can bring home the honour in the near future,” he said.
His father, Segun, is also optimistic about his son’s future, predicting that he will become the youngest Nigerian to play for the Super Eagles and potentially play for Real Madrid.
The management of the Nationwide League One has praised the youngster’s achievement, citing it as evidence of their efforts to develop Nigerian football and provide opportunities for young players to grow and succeed.
