The 2025/26 season is shaping up to be a career-defining campaign for Philip Azango, as the Nigerian forward continues to dazzle in front of goal.

The 28-year-old was once again the difference-maker, grabbing a goal and an assist to lead Trnava to a dominant 5–1 victory over Hibernians in the Conference League Qualification Round 2 clash on Thursday.

Azango’s exciting performance at the City Arena—Štadión Antona Malatinského sealed Trnava’s progress with a 7–2 aggregate scoreline.

Azango set the tone early in the game, initiating the move that led to Libor Holik’s opener in the 4th minute.
He didn’t stop there. Holik returned the favour by assisting Stefan Skrbo to double the lead in the 13th minute, giving Trnava full control.
Hibernians nearly pulled one back through a penalty, but Bjørn Kristensen missed from the spot. The Slovak side had a penalty of their own, but Michal Duris also failed to convert.
Miullen gave Hibernians a brief lifeline in the 37th minute, finishing smartly after a pass from Lucas Villela. But that hope was short-lived.

Right after halftime, Michal Tomic restored the momentum with a third goal in the 47th minute.

An own goal from Pedrao in the 54th and a clinical finish from Philip Azango in the 57th minute completed the demolition.
Having already notched his second consecutive goal for Spartak Trnava—after scoring in a 3–0 league win over Ruzomberok—Azango was subbed off in the 65th minute for Hilary Gong, having already done the damage.
What’s Next for Azango and His Trnava Teammates?
Following this impressive win over Hibernians, Trnava will now shift focus back to domestic duties, with a clash against Trencin coming up on Sunday.

Footballrover will continue to monitor the Nigerian who seems to be entering his prime in spectacular fashion.
With this form, Azango might just turn this season into the best of his career yet.
