The aim for Carlo Ancelotti’s side was to manage the second leg and ensure their spot in the last four.
However, Mason Mount scored a precise goal just 15 minutes into the game to pull the Blues back into the game.
Mount pounced on a Werner flick and sent a strong right-footed strike past Courtois.
Mount took a solid first touch before driving his shot into the right corner of the net after Werner nudged a flick into his path on the edge of the box.
The visitors were the better team throughout the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime despite trailing 3-2 on aggregate
Rudiger then scored a perfect header past Courtois six minutes into the second half to square the game 3-3 on aggregate.
Mount swoops in from the right flank with a lethal cross that glides into the middle. Rudiger attacked the delivery and placed his effort in the bottom-right corner with precision.
Timo Werner later put the Blues ahead in the 75th minute. The German maintained his cool and buried a low strike into the net.
Kovacic unleashed the forward in the inside-left channel, who cuts back beyond Carvajal’s challenge.
Werner fired his shot, it was deflected by Courtois and lands in the bottom-right corner.
Luka Modric, on the other hand, used a moment of magic to unlock the visitors’ defense, allowing Rodrygo to level the scores and send the game to extra time.
