Graham Potter’s side secured a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund courtesy of goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz.

The Blues progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline over the Bundesliga team, after winning 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the second leg.

Chelsea eliminated Dortmund, eased burden the on Graham Potter, and advanced to the last 8 of the Champions League by putting an end to their goal scoring woes.

The Blues needed to overturn a 1-0 setback coming into the second leg, and they eventually succeeded in achieving it after 12 games in all competitions without doing so.

Raheem Sterling’s stunning opening goal and Kai Havertz’s converted penalty after missing the initial attempt each helped the Premier League side secure the hard-fought victory.

The West London team needed just the two goals to upset Dortmund and advance to the next round of the competition.

Potter has had a challenging few months as he struggled to assemble a solid squad from a sizable group of players.

Although he has battled and found it difficult to score goals, the former Brighton manager did manage to defeat Dortmund with two goals on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

In an effort to inspire his Chelsea players before the game, Graham Potter revealed what he said to them while speaking to the club media.

Well, Just show themselves as a team, you know we’ve had a tough moment, we’ve had tough periods, results haven’t been what we’ve wanted and we’ve had to suffer. So tonight was a night for us to show our quality and show what we’re about.” – he said.

Potter added;

We had a good victory at the weekend that I think was important for us and then we know the importance of this competition, the importance of us trying to get through to the next round, so it was a real determination and a real spirit.”
