As the situation with Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea grinds on, with the striker pressing for a return back to Inter Milan this summer, the Blues legend – John Mikel Obi has highlighted why the forward underperformed at Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old Belgian international’s return to the Bridge has been a complete nightmare for him, and everyone has a viewpoint on what went wrong.

After only half a season with the Premier League side, Lukaku expressed his desire to return to his former club while also complaining about Thomas Tuchel system.

However, former Chelsea midfielder – John Obi Mikel feels Lukaku’s struggles at Chelsea are due to the tempo of the English league differing from that of the Italian league.

While speaking to NaijaFM – 102.7, John Mikel Obi said;

“The English league it totally different, too strong, too powerful, too fast whereas Italian league is too slow. English league has too much quality. I think the pace of English football is too much for Italian league where you can play until you’re 40.” –

Meanwhile, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the transfer of Milan Skriniar to Chelsea is the key to securing an agreement for Lukaku’s return to Milan.

Thomas Tuchel wants to acquire the services of the Slovakian defender this summer to replace the departing Chelsea defenders.

Chelsea wants to reduce their expense on Skriniar by incorporating a player in the deal, such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but Inter just wants money to reinvest.

Inter could strike up a gentleman’s agreement with Chelsea (for Lukaku) that after the initial paid loan were completed at the end of the season, they will re-sign him on another paid loan, with the goal being a permanent transfer after that.
