PSV on Thursday night humbled their Premier League counterpart – Arsenal with ease after the final whistle. The Eredivisie team simply outmanoeuvred the Gunners in every way, leading to a comfortable victory.

The home team more than made up for their two first-half goals that were disallowed, courtesy of two quick goals from Veerman and Luuk De Jong in the second half of the encounter.

The Gunners had little response to PSV’s well-orchestrated attacking style after Gakpo had another goal disallowed for offside.

This is the first loss for Mikel Arteta and his men in Europe this campaign, and despite being clearly outmatched in this encounter, PSV will now have a better chance than ever of surpassing the Gunners for first place in Group A on matchday six.

Although PSV was unable to score an onside goal in the opening period, the presence of De Jong after the break changed the approach of the match.

The returning PSV captain used his hold-up play to huge impact all through the half, which helped set up the first goal, and his heading skill, which led to the second goal.

After completing eight passes in the final third, he created two chances. He also won seven out of ten aerial duels to confuse Arsenal’s defenders.

With two goals, PSV defeated Arsenal to move within two points of the Gunners at the top of Group A going into the final round of games.

Arsenal will still believe they have what it takes to defeat Zurich in their final game to win the group, but they will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on a PSV team who displayed some sense of impressive attacking abilities throughout this contest.
