At the start of the second half, Havertz immediately restored parity by heading in a precise cross from Gallagher.

In extra time, Gross scored from a rebound to make it 4-1 after Mendy had stopped two shots from Enciso. Despite Chelsea’s efforts, they were ineffective in adding more goals.

While Brighton climbs to seventh place in the Premier League rankings, Chelsea remains in fifth.

Next weekend, the Blues will host Arsenal before playing Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. The next league match for Brighton is at Wolves.

Chelsea lost at Brighton for the first time ever, and the 4-1 humiliation means the Blues have gone three games without a victory in the league, putting them five points behind Spurs and three behind Newcastle.

Graham Potter’s nine-game winning streak came to an end, and Brighton also broke the unbeaten streak Chelsea had over them ever since they were promoted to the top division.
