After weeks of frustration and close misses, Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers has finally broken his goal drought, delivering a vital strike in Rangers’ hard-fought 2-1 victory over Motherwell.
With this goal, Dessers not only ended an eight-game dry spell but also strengthened Rangers’ campaign, sending them into the League Cup final with renewed momentum, Footballrover reports.
The match saw Rangers pressing from the outset, and Dessers came tantalisingly close to scoring in the 12th minute.
His powerful shot, following a well-executed counterattack initiated by Jefte, narrowly missed the target, leaving Rangers fans anxiously waiting for a breakthrough.
Motherwell capitalised on their opportunities in the 25th minute, with Andy Halliday slotting in a goal from a precise setup by Steve Seddon, putting Rangers at a disadvantage.
Despite persistent efforts, including another close attempt by Dessers just before halftime, Rangers found themselves trailing by a goal as they headed into the break.

Returning with renewed energy, Rangers wasted no time in the second half. Just minutes after the restart, Dessers ended his goal drought in the 49th minute, calmly finishing off a well-timed pass from Barron to equalise.
The goal excited the crowd, marking a much-needed return to form for the Nigerian forward.
Despite his strong performance, Dessers was substituted in the 67th minute for Danilo.
The tension remained high as both teams vied for the lead, but it was Nedim Bajrami who ultimately secured Rangers’ win with a decisive goal in the 81st minute, capitalising on a clever assist from Václav Černý.
Dessers’ contribution, highlighted by his season tally of eight goals and three assists, comes at an important moment as he seeks to seal his place in the Super Eagles lineup for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
With Nigeria leading their qualifying group, Dessers’ resurgence may prove crucial as he aims to impress interim manager Austin Eguavoen.
