Super Eagles forward Simy Nwankwo is back in the spotlight after inspiring Al-Orobah FC to another vital victory in the Saudi First Division League.
Following his match-winning assist against Al-Arabi in their last outing, the Super Eagles forward found his scoring touch this time to help secure a second consecutive win, a 3-1 away triumph over Al Batin, Footballrover reports
Simy Nwankwo unstoppable as Al-Orobah build winning momentum
The 33-year-old opened the scoring in the Round 27 clash at the Al-Batin FC Stadium, continuing his incredible run of form.
The long-forgotten Nigerian international has now registered four goals and an assist in his last six games. His season totals are even more staggering, reaching 23 goal contributions (21 goals and 2 assists) in just 20 appearances.
The hosts initially thought they had taken the lead 33 minutes in, but Abdoulaye Diaby’s effort was ruled out.
Just nine minutes later, Simy made them pay by finding the back of the net to give the visitors a slim lead heading into the break.
Al Batin eventually found an equaliser in the 72nd minute when Diaby finally got his goal to make it 1-1.
However, the parity was short-lived. Al-Orobah struck back through Darwin González in the 80th minute, before Aboubacar Doumbia sealed the result eight minutes later.
Despite the victory, Al-Orobah remains in fifth place with 50 points.
With momentum firmly on their side, they now turn their attention to Thursday’s clash against Al Faisaly, where they will be hunting for a third straight win.
Ebere shines in Liga MX but Cruz Azul fall short
Meanwhile, it was a different story for Christian Ebere in Mexico’s Liga MX, as he endured a night of mixed emotions during Cruz Azul’s clash with Pachuca.
Despite scoring his maiden goal to pull his team back into the contest, the Nigerian star could only watch as they succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat, with Kenedy stealing the spotlight both early and late.
The Brazilian struck as early as the 5th minute to give Pachuca a flying start, but Ebere showed great composure to pull Cruz Azul level just before the halftime whistle.
However, the parity didn’t last long; Kenedy struck again shortly after the break, restoring Pachuca’s lead with what ultimately proved to be the match-winner.
Ebere put in a solid shift for 80 minutes before being replaced by Andres Montaño as Cruz Azul chased an equaliser.
The closing stages turned heated as Pachuca was reduced to nine men. Christian Rivera saw red in the 83rd minute, and Victor Guzman was also sent off from the bench during the late drama.
Despite the numerical disadvantage and the chaotic finish, Pachuca held firm to secure all three points.
