Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen returned to the spotlight with a decisive goal, powering Galatasaray to a commanding Intercontinental Derby win over Fenerbahce in Sunday’s Turkish Super Lig clash.
Osimhen opened the scoring as Galatasaray cruised to a 3-0 victory at RAMS Park in their Matchday 31 encounter, Footballrover reports.
Victor Osimhen Silences Critics in Galatasaray Derby Win
The build-up to the derby was tense, with Fenerbahce filing a complaint to the Turkish FA over Osimhen’s protective arm gear.
The Nigerian forward, recently back from a broken arm, has been using the guard since his return, but rivals raised concerns over player safety.
Despite the controversy, Osimhen delivered the perfect response on the pitch.
After a tightly contested start, Galatasaray found the breakthrough in the 40th minute.
Mario Lemina threaded a pass into Osimhen, who showed sharp anticipation to beat two defenders before calmly finishing into the left corner.
It was another example of his versatility in front of goal — having now scored with his head, feet, and now his knees this season.
Osimhen marked the moment with a cheeky celebration, mimicking a crying gesture aimed at Fenerbahce following their pre-match protest.
Galatasaray thought they had doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Lucas Torreira fired a precise low shot into the bottom corner, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for offside.
Osimhen Goal Leads Galatasaray Title Charge
The hosts maintained pressure, and six minutes later, Fenerbahce were reduced to ten men.
Ederson received a second yellow card after dissent toward referee Yasin Kol, leaving his side at a disadvantage.
Galatasaray capitalised soon after, as Baris Alper Yilmaz converted a penalty with confidence, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 2-0.
A late defensive error from Fenerbahce sealed their fate. Lucas Torreira pounced on a loose ball and slotted home to complete the 3-0 rout.
Osimhen’s latest strike takes his league tally to 13 goals and four assists in 20 appearances, while his overall season numbers rise to 20 goals.
He has also contributed seven goals and one assist in the Champions League, bringing his total goal involvements to 25 across all competitions.
The victory sends Galatasaray seven points clear at the top of the table with just three matches remaining, putting them firmly in control of the title race.
