Rivers United asserted their dominance to lift the Rivers State FA Cup after a commanding 3–0 victory over Willbros FC at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Nigeria Premier Football League side needed three late goals from Chinedu Sunday, Wisdom Samuel, and Handsome Surveyor to secure a well-deserved win against the resilient academy side, Footballrover reports.
Rivers United assert supremacy over Willbros in FA Cup final
The Finidi George side came into the final off a 2–1 semi-final win over De Cardinal FC, while Willbros edged Ereme Jackson 1–0 to book their place.
Both sides had also met in the 2025 final, which ended goalless before United triumphed via penalties, adding extra tension to this latest encounter.
The NPFL title contenders started brightly and tested the Willbros goalkeeper within two minutes, but the early effort was pushed away.
Willbros matched their more experienced opponents in intensity—going stride for stride in pace and physicality—but United’s composure eventually made the difference after a goalless first half.
United late surge seals Rivers State FA Cup glory
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 71st minute when Chinedu Sunday found the net to give the Pride of Rivers the lead.
Nineteen minutes later, substitute Wisdom Samuel doubled the advantage, calmly finishing from Timothy’s precise cross on the left flank.
Handsome Surveyor then wrapped up the victory three minutes into stoppage time, netting his fourth goal of the competition and his fifth in the last four matches.
The win means Rivers United have now defeated Willbros in back-to-back Rivers State FA Cup finals and will go on to represent the state in the President Federation Cup.
