The pressure is mounting, but Atalanta star Ademola Lookman remains unfazed. As Nigeria prepares for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, the 2024 CAF Player of the Year has made it clear—he’s embracing the challenge with confidence.

The Super Eagles have had a shaky start to their qualifying campaign, making the upcoming fixtures must-win encounters, Footballrover reports.

However, Lookman insists there’s no tension in the camp, just a strong belief in their new coach, Eric Chelle.

The 27-year-old forward arrived in Kigali on Monday, joining key teammates William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, and Alex Iwobi as Nigeria warm up for Friday’s high-stakes clash.

After their second training session, Lookman spoke about the fresh ideas Chelle has brought to the squad.

In an interview with OJB Sports, the former Everton man stated that the team had held numerous meetings discussing the manager’s tactical approach, including their game plan and both defensive and attacking strategies, which he described as positive.

“I’m not feeling any pressure at all. I’m just glad to be back with the squad, back with the guys. We have a big task ahead of us, and we’re looking forward to it,” he said.

The former Everton winger emphasised how quickly the team is adapting to Chelle’s philosophy.

He highlighted the smooth transition into the new system, with players fully buying into the approach after just two sessions.

Redemption time against Rwanda?

Lookman was absent when the Super Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat to Rwanda in Uyo last November.

That loss left Nigeria struggling in their qualifying campaign, making the upcoming rematch in Kigali even more crucial.

The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on Friday, March 21, before returning to Uyo to battle Zimbabwe four days later.

With the team desperate to turn things around, Ademola Lookman’s confidence and Chelle’s tactics could be the spark Nigeria needs to reignite their World Cup hopes.
