After recording two assists in his first two games for Villarreal, Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has finally scored his first goal of the new season.
Chidozie Awaziem and the Hajduk Split team lost out on advancing to the UECL group stage after Samuel Chukwueze scored his first goal of the season, ensuring Villarreal’s victory.
The 23-year-old bolstered his performance with a powerful strike in the second leg of the UECL fourth qualifying round after picking up an assist in the first leg of the clash at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia last week.
Villarreal sealed their spot in the group stages of the Europa Conference League with a 6-2 win on aggregate over Hadjuk Split courtesy of a first half goal Alfonso Pedraza and a second from Chukwueze.
- Samuel Chukwueze scores his first goal of the season
- The 23-year old scored 9 goals in all competitions during the 2021/2022 season
After winning 4-2 at home in the first leg, Unai Emery’s team headed to Croatia with a two-goal lead over Hadjuk.
Former Inter striker Marko Livaja gave the Spanish team a lot of trouble early into the game but drastically failed to find back of the net
Alfonso Pedraza, though, helped the Yellow Submarine take the lead 37 minutes into the game when he hit the post with a fantastic attempt with his weaker foot.
As the game went on, Villarreal took charge of the match and just 11 minutes into the second half, they were rewarded for their efforts. Samuel Chukwueze fired a light shot and poor goalkeeping ensured the result was unassailable.
Villarreal’s triumph in the Europa League in 2021 allowed them to advance to the Champions League last season; otherwise, they would have played in the Conference League.
They will compete this season as the first Spanish team in the recently created Conference League as a consequence of their victory over Hajduk Split.
