Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu finally broke his Premier League goal drought in Southampton’s 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Despite the loss, the forward expressed his gratitude to the fans for their support since his arrival two years ago, dedicating his milestone to them, Footballrover reports.

Coming on as a substitute in the 58th minute with Southampton trailing 3-0, Paul Onuachu played a key role in a spirited comeback effort.
His towering header from a Mateus Fernandes corner during added time marked a personal triumph and capped off an impressive individual display.
Earlier, Onuachu’s crucial knockdown assisted fellow substitute Lesley Ugochukwu, whose deflected shot off Jan Bednarek brought Southampton back into the game.
Reflecting on his performance, Onuachu credited manager Ivan Jurić’s instructions, which emphasised fighting for possession and playing with intensity.
Onuachu explained to Southampton’s official website that the manager had encouraged him to fight and keep possession when he came on as a substitute, and he simply followed those instructions.
He highlighted the team’s energetic performance in the second half and praised Lesley Ugochukwu as a brilliant player to watch.
Onuachu’s message to fans after breaking his goal drought
Scoring his first Premier League goal after logging 828 minutes across 26 matches was a significant moment for Onuachu.
While disappointed by the result, the Nigerian international admitted the goal boosted his confidence as a striker while revealing fans’ verdict.
“It was disappointing that we lost, but of course as a striker you have confidence that you get the first goal for Saints, and I think the fans will be happy for me,” Onuachu noted.
The FC Ebedei product remains hopeful that Southampton can climb the Premier League table, emphasising teamwork and resilience as key to their fight for better results.
Meanwhile, Southampton manager Ivan Juric commended Paul Onuachu for his outstanding performance despite the team’s loss to Nottingham Forest.
Jurić noted that he believes Paul Onuachu has quality. He stressed that Paul was eager to score and had a fighting spirit, which he considered important qualities.
Jurić expressed his desire for players with such attributes and stated that he believed Paul could contribute a lot to the team.
