Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed full confidence in Nigeria’s ability to overcome Libya in the upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifier.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Troost-Ekong vowed that the Super Eagles would secure victory despite the tough challenge posed by the Libyans, Footballrover reports.
The 31-year-old Nigerian defender firmly rejected the idea of a Libyan upset, but acknowledged that the match will not be an easy one.
The Al-Kholood centre-back emphasised the team’s determination to claim all three points in front of their home fans and maintain their strong position in the qualification campaign.
“There won’t be any chance of them pulling us down. We’ll win, we’ll get the three points, but we know it will be difficult against the Libyans,” Troost-Ekong declared.
Nigeria heads into this crucial encounter sitting atop Group D, having yet to concede a goal in their previous games.
The Super Eagles have also never lost to Libya in their past four meetings.
This match presents an opportunity to extend that record and inch closer to securing a ticket to Morocco.
“We want to be at the AFCON next year. We cannot afford to miss the tournament in Morocco. We’re working hard—players, coaches, officials, everyone—and we hope to achieve our dream,” Troost-Ekong emphasised.
Super Eagles determined to dominate AFCON 2025 qualifiers
A win on Friday would not only secure Nigeria’s dominance in the group but also put them in a commanding position for qualification.
Two consecutive victories over Libya would give the Super Eagles a significant advantage, leaving little room for their rivals to catch up.
With an unbeaten run in the group and the hunger to reach next year’s finals, Troost-Ekong and his teammates are prepared to leave no stone unturned as they go head-to-head with the Mediterranean Knights.
