A hard-fought battle in Lafia ended with a last-minute penalty that shattered the visitors’ unbeaten streak, leaving the home fans in jubilation, Footballrover reports.

From the opening whistle, Nasarawa Amazons imposed their dominance, with Ayatsea Hembafan and Akekeromowei Janet testing Remo Stars’ defence early on.

Despite relentless attacks, visiting goalkeeper Charlotte Adjei produced stunning saves to keep the game goalless.

Just when it seemed the match would end in a stalemate, Remo Stars Ladies faltered.

Defender Akudo Ogbonna committed a desperate foul on Akekeromowei Janet in the box, leaving the referee no choice but to award a penalty.

Stepping up under immense pressure, Janet kept her cool and converted, sending the Lafia City Stadium into huge excitement.

With that goal, Nasarawa Amazons handed Remo Stars Ladies their first defeat of the season.

After the game, Nasarawa Amazons boss Christopher Danjuma couldn’t hide his excitement.

He acknowledged the team’s tactical discipline but admitted they must improve their finishing.

“It’s a very sweet win because we are the team that has stopped the unbeaten run of Remo Stars Ladies, though our conversion rate did not truly reflect our dominance, but we will keep working on it,” he said.

He said he knew it was going to be a tough match and emphasised that the aim was to qualify for the Super 6, making every match crucial.

He added that it was important for Nasarawa Amazons to be there and assured that they would stop at nothing to achieve that.

Meanwhile, the goalscorer Akekeromowei Janet revealed that although the match was a challenging battle, the team’s determination played a crucial role in securing the victory.

“The game was a tough one, but we put all our strength in the coach’s tactics to get the desired result. We wanted goals, as many goals as possible, but it never came as we expected, so we took the last chance and won,” she noted.

Next, Nasarawa Amazons head to Lagos for a crucial clash against Dannaz Ladies as their Super 6 quest continues.
