Akor Adams on pressure and Sevilla’s ambition

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Footballrover, organised by the club via Zoom on Thursday, Akor Adams dismissed concerns about pressure, stating that his focus is on performing rather than feeling burdened by expectations.

“No, I think I want to express to the public, to the club—if you impress, then there is pressure,” Adams said. “I know I have it; I know I’m in the right frame of mind; I know I’m in the right group. So, I want to impress; I want to come to the stadium, perform, and score goals.”

There is no pressure of that sort because Chidi (Chidera Ejuke) is an amazing player, and Kelechi (Iheanacho) is an amazing player. If they were not, the club wouldn’t have signed them,” he added.

He expressed excitement about playing in such an intense football environment.

“I think from the moment you walk into Sevilla, you will feel it’s a great club. Nobody tells you; you just know that this is a great club. And I learnt one phrase here already: ‘There’s only one team in Seville, and that’s Sevilla,’” he responded to Izuchukwu Akawor of Pulse NG.

Recall that Akor Adams made the switch to Sevilla from Montpellier in a €5.5 million deal during the January transfer window.

His impressive form also earned him a spot in Nigeria’s provisional 39-man squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

However, he was left out of the final 23-man squad selected by new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle for today’s clash against Rwanda in Kigali.

Despite missing out on national team action, Akor Adams remains focused on making a name for himself in La Liga and proving why Sevilla trusted him to lead their attack.
