Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel was in top form on Tuesday night as his Fenerbahce side secured their spots in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
Osayi-Samuel was instrumental for Fenerbahce, helping the team defensively to complete a 2-1 victory over Swiss side FC Lugano, Footballrover reports.
Osayi-Samuel’s Fenerbahce Fires on All Cylinders
Bright Osayi-Samuel was the spark Fenerbahce needed to ignite their Champions League campaign.
The 26-year-old right-back played a key role as Jose Mourinho’s men edged out Swiss side FC Lugano with a thrilling 6-4 aggregate victory.
In a nail-biting encounter at the Ulker Stadium Şükrü Saracoğlu, Fener found themselves trailing early on.
Barely seven minutes into the match, Mohamed Belhadj gave the visitors the lead, and that goal remained the difference between the two teams going into halftime.
But fear not, for Osayi-Samuel and his teammates had other plans.
14 minutes after the restart, Edin Dzeko restored parity for the home team before Sebastian Szymanski scored three minutes into extra time to seal the win.
The Super Eagles defender put in a solid shift before being subbed off in 70th minute and replaced by Mert Muldur, proving once again why he’s a key player for both club and country.
Before winning at home to guarantee their spot in the following round, Bright Osayi-Samuel and his team had won 4-3 on the road.
Next up for the Turkish titans is a clash against French Ligue 1 outfit Lille next week Tuesday—a mouthwatering game.
