Super Eagles – Chidozie Awaziem, has officially joined Croatian outfit – HNK Hajduk Split on a season-long loan from Boavista in Portugal.
Hajduk and Boavista accepted a deal that will allow the Nigerian defender go on a one-year loan from with the option to buy him outright at the end of the current campaign.
Chidozie Awaziem, whose football career he started off with El-Kanemi and later transferred to the Porto football academy in 2014, will now don jersey No. 25 in Hajduk.
Awaziem made the decision to sign with HNK Hajduk Split in order to receive consistent playing time and regain his form.
The club statement on their official website says;
“Chidozie Awaziem is Hajduk’s new stopper. Hajduk and Boavista have agreed to a one-year loan with the option to buy out the contract at the end of the season.”
The 25-year-old played more than 60 times for Porto’s Team B at the start of his senior career and 10 times for the first team.
Awaziem spent the years 2017 to 2021 on loan, spending time with the French team Nantes, Turkish club Rizespor, and Spanish Segunda Liga club Leganes.
The Center-back eventually signed on with Boavista in 2021 after spending the previous campaign on loan at the Portuguese team.
Chidozie Awaziem was on loan to Turkish Alanyaspor during the previous season. He participated frequently at all clubs and made over 20 appearances for the Super Eagles during that time.
The Super Eagles defender voiced his joy at joining the Croatian team – Hajduk Split shortly after being unveiled.
“I know that Split is a beautiful city and that the fans are very passionate and love football. I also like football, so we are very similar in that. I came to Split to give my best and to fulfill our goals,” Awaziem said.
