The Benin-based side last suffered a similar margin of defeat in March 2008, when they fell 3-0 to Heartland FC, Footballrover reports.

This latest result not only broke a long-standing record but also handed Ikorodu City their first victory of the season.

Coming off a 1-1 draw against El-Kanemi Warriors, the Benin Gunners entered the fixture hoping to secure vital points.

However, their plans were quickly derailed by a spirited Ikorodu City side. The newcomers, having narrowly lost 1-0 to Plateau United in their previous match, were eager to turn their season around, and they did just that in emphatic fashion.

The first half of the game saw both teams locked in a tense battle, with neither able to break the deadlock.

However, the Oga Boys came out with renewed energy after the break. Just two minutes into the second half, Rivio Ayemwenre opened the scoring, heading home after a brilliant run and cross from captain Waliu.

Ikorodu City doubled their lead just nine minutes later, as Kelechi found the back of the net with a well-placed header, capitalising on a long throw from Tosin.

By the 73rd minute, Ajeyigbe sealed the victory with a powerful strike, rounding the keeper before blasting the ball into the top corner.

This win marked Ikorodu City’s first-ever victory in the NPFL, snapping a run of four defeats and a draw in their opening five matches. The victory also sealed their second clean sheet of the season.
