Three Nigerians—Lookman Ademola, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Moses Usor—all had mixed results after their involvements in Thursday night’s Europa League and Europa Conference League.
Ademola Lookman puts in a decent performance for Atalanta
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman delivered a solid performance when Atalanta faced off against SK Sturm Graz in a Europa League match at Merkur Arena on a Thursday night, footballrover reports
Despite playing for just 63 minutes, Lookman managed to create one opportunity and execute three dribbles as the home team, even with a man down, fought back to secure a 2-2 draw.
SK Sturm Graz initiated the scoring just 13 minutes into the match through Alexander Prass.
Luis Muriel, in the span of 18 minutes, netted a brace, propelling visiting Atalanta to a 2-1 lead.
The home side had a setback when Stefan Hierländer was shown a red card in the 52nd minute, but their determination paid off 28 minutes later with Szymon Wlodarczyk’s late goal, earning them a valuable point.
This draw positions Lookman Ademola and his team at the top of Group D with seven points after three matchdays. Their focus now shifts to a Monday night clash with Empoli in Serie A.
Moses Usor suffers a narrow setback with LASK
For Moses Usor and his LASK teammates in the Europa League, it wasn’t a good day at the office.
Despite Usor’s impressive early goal, the 21-year-old forward on loan from Slavia Prague could only watch as LASK suffered a third consecutive defeat, conceding two late goals.
Usor opened the scoring at Lotto Park just 24 minutes into the game, but two late goals from Cameron Puertas and Christian Burgess led to a 2-1 defeat.
They are now gearing up for a visit to Rapid Wien at the Allianz Stadion in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday, hoping to bounce back from their narrow loss.
Bright Osayi-Samuel helps Fenerbahce to victory
Meanwhile, in Turkey, 25-year-old Nigerian right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel played a crucial role in Fenerbahce’s third consecutive victory in the Europa League group stage.
Former Chelsea player Michy Batshuayi found the net in the first half, while Miha Zajc scored twice in the second half.
Fenerbahce secured a 3-1 win over Ludogorets Razgrad, who managed only an own goal by Rodrigo Becão.
With this victory at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, Bright Osayi-Samuel and his teammates maintain the top spot in Group H with nine points from three games.
Their next challenge is against Pendikspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
