Cyriel Dessers decided to add two more goals to his name in the new campaign with a skillfully executed brace in KRC Genk’s 3-1 Belgian Jupiler Pro League victory over Standard Liege.

The attacker has scored a brace this time around after netting the equalizer in their 3-2 away loss to Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium last week Sunday.

Genk had the Nigerian forward spearheading their attack in an effort to redeem the narrow loss at Club Brugge on Matchday 1.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring and provided an assist before converting a penalty kick to win and earn all three points for Genk at the Cristal Arena on Sunday.

Dessers capitalized on Paintsil’s assist just five minutes into the game to give Genk a well deserved lead and ease the home crowd’s concerns.

As Genk kept dominating the early stages of first half, the Super Eagles striker then turned provider for Tresor Ndayishimiye, who quickly made it 2-0 for the home side in the 16th minute.

In the 24th minute, Standard Liege found back of the net courtesy of Denis Dragus, who scored to get his team back into the contest.

Before Dessers finished off the scoring in the first half, Genk had the lead back by two goals thanks to a penalty goal that was converted on the second try in the 29th minute.

The Nigerian international was only on the field for 86 minutes before being replaced by Andras Nemeth, a 19-year-old striker from Hungary.

Despite persistent rumors that Genk will sell Cyriel Dessers during this transfer window, he has now scored three goals and provided one assist in just two games.
