Nigerian duo Tolulope Ojo and Favour Akem had an impressive game on Friday as they combined to score and assist, helping El Gouna secure a vital away win over 10-man Ghazl El Mahallah in their fight for survival in the Egypt Premier League.

Their impressive performances kept El Gouna firmly in the relegation battle, showing why these Nigerian stars are crucial to their team’s campaign, Footballrover reports.

The relegation group clash at El Mahalla El Kubra stadium saw El Gouna dominate, crushing their hosts 4-0.

Marwan Mohsen opened the scoring in the 10th minute, setting the tone for El Gouna’s attacking intent.

The match swung heavily in El Gouna’s favour just before halftime when Mory Toure of Ghazl El Mahallah received a second yellow card in the 41st minute, reducing the hosts to ten men.

El Gouna capitalised immediately before the break, with Mohammed Imad doubling the lead, expertly finishing off a slick assist from Favour Akem, who notched his third assist of the season.

In the second half, Favour Akem was substituted for Ali El Zahdi, who quickly made an impact by scoring in the 58th minute to make it 3-0.

Later, El Zahdi set up Tolulope Ojo in the 72nd minute, allowing the Nigerian forward to bag his fourth goal of the campaign.

Tolulope Ojo was later replaced by Mohamed El Nahas, but by then, El Gouna had already sealed a commanding win.

This victory was a major boost after two consecutive disappointing 1-0 home defeats to El Gaish and Modern Sport.

El Gouna’s win marked their second in the last six outings, amid two draws and two losses, keeping them second in the relegation group with 30 points, level on points with leaders ZED.

With one game left against El Ismaily, El Gouna will look to officially confirm their place in the Egypt Premier League next season.

Tolulope Ojo and Favour Akem’s contributions remain key to El Gouna as they fight to keep their team in Egypt’s top flight.
