As the international break looms, Nigerian footballers Tolu Arokodare and Peter Agba delivered standout performances for their respective clubs on Saturday.
Arokodare found the net once more to propel Genk to victory in Belgium, while Agba struck late to inspire Olimpija Ljubljana’s commanding win in Slovenia, Footballrover reports.
With both players in fine form, their clubs continue to push for glory.
Tolu Arokodare fires Genk to victory
In the Belgian Pro League, Tolu Arokodare displayed his scoring prowess once again, netting his 17th league goal of the season as Genk secured a crucial 2-1 win over Union St. Gilloise at the Cegeka Arena.
His strike not only helped Genk return to winning ways but also extended their unbeaten streak to ten matches.
After a tightly contested first half, the game burst into life in the 69th minute when Arokodare broke the deadlock, bringing excitement to the atmosphere for the home fans.
Just 12 minutes later, he was substituted for Hyun-Gyu Ho, who wasted no time making an impact—doubling Genk’s lead just two minutes after coming on.
Although RUSG managed to pull one back in stoppage time, it wasn’t enough to deny Genk all three points.
With this victory, Genk extended their lead at the top of the table to 12 points, further strengthening their title charge as second-placed Club Brugge await their game in hand.
Arokodare’s overall season tally now stands at 24 goal contributions, including five assists and additional two strikes in the Belgian Cup.
With such blistering form, his presence in the Super Eagles setup adds even more excitement to Nigeria’s attacking options as they set to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in World Cup qualifiers.
Peter Agba seals Olimpija Ljubljana’s dominant win
Meanwhile, in Slovenia, Peter Agba was the hero for Olimpija Ljubljana as they claimed a commanding 3-0 away victory over Radomlje in the Prva Liga.
The Nigerian midfielder, who has been steadily making his mark, delivered a crucial goal to secure his team’s second consecutive win.
Following a goalless first half, Olimpija Ljubljana finally broke through in the 67th minute with a strike from Marko Ristic.
Then, in the 81st minute, Agba doubled their lead with a composed finish, further deflating the hosts.
The victory was sealed in stoppage time when Marko Brest added a third, ensuring Olimpija Ljubljana maintained their dominant nine-point lead at the top of the table.
For Agba, this was his second goal of the season, and with his confidence growing, he continues to play a key role in Olimpija’s push for silverware.
