Christian Chukwu (1980)

Christian Chukwu Okoro (4 January 1951 – 12 April 2025) remains a towering figure in Nigerian football.

A composed defender and natural leader, Chukwu captained the Super Eagles to their first-ever AFCON title in 1980.

That triumph did more than win silverware — it announced Nigeria as a continental force and set a benchmark for future generations.

Stephen Keshi (1994)

Stephen Keshi’s AFCON legacy is unique. As captain, he led Nigeria to victory at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, anchoring a team that dominated African football in that era.

Nearly two decades later, Keshi returned to lift the same trophy in 2013, this time as head coach. No Nigerian has impacted the Super Eagles’ AFCON history quite like him.

Joseph Yobo (2013)

A calm presence at the back, Yobo played a central role in guiding a disciplined Nigerian side to continental success.
