Leon Balogun is calling on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to intervene following Libya’s harsh treatment of the Super Eagles at the hands of their airport authorities.
This incident occurred after the Nigerian national team arrived in Libya on Sunday for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, Footballrover reports.
Initially scheduled to land in Benghazi, the team’s flight was redirected to an alternative city.
Upon their arrival, the players and staff found themselves marooned at Al Abaq Airport for an agonising 13 hours.
Reports from the airport personnel indicated that they received instructions from higher authorities to detain the Nigerian delegation for over eight hours.
Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong shared photos of Victor Boniface, Calvin Bassey, and other Super Eagles players after revealing that the team was stranded at a Libyan airport for over 12 hours without access to food or drink 😳

During this prolonged wait, the airport gates remained securely locked, and there was no sign of Libyan Football Association representatives to assist or transport the team.
Balogun calls for CAF investigation into Libya’s treatment of Super Eagles
While the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sought to arrange accommodations for the players and officials near the airport, every hotel they contacted declined their request, citing directives against accepting Nigerian guests.
Even the aircraft crew, in their search for lodging, encountered the same response.
Frustrated by this treatment, Balogun has urged CAF to take decisive action against Libya.

The 36-year-old defender expressed his disappointment, emphasising that such behaviour is intolerable and those responsible must be held accountable.
“Hey @CAF_Online – surely you’re going to investigate thoroughly and take action, right? Whoever is responsible for this needs to be held accountable. This is unacceptable,” he wrote on his X page.
