Super Eagles star Saviour Godwin is showing relentless determination to ensure Al Akhdoud remains in the Saudi Pro League.
His crucial goal against Al-Raed on Thursday at the Prince Hathloul bin Abdulaziz Sports City has injected fresh hope into their battle against relegation in the top flight, Footballrover reports.
Saviour Godwin’s decisive goal against Al-Raed
Godwin once again registered his name onto the scoresheet, netting the only goal against Al-Raed that secured a vital 1-0 victory for Al Akhdoud.
The match, a tense affair, saw the Nigerian international deliver when his team needed it most.
The 28-year-old has now contributed ten goals in 30 appearances this season, with seven goals and three assists to his name.
The first half remained goalless, but the deadlock was broken in the 56th minute when Saviour expertly slotted home a well-placed pass from Knowledge Musona on the right wing, leaving the Al-Raed goalkeeper with no chance.
Although the one-cap Super Eagles forward was substituted in added time for Hussain Al-Zabdani, his crucial goal proved to be the decisive moment, earning Al Akhdoud all three crucial points.
This victory ended Al Akhdoud’s three-game losing streak against Al-Wehda, Al Nassr FC, and Al-Fayha, providing a much-needed boost as the season draws to a close.
Relegation battle intensifies after Godwin’s lone strike
Al Akhdoud’s fight for survival will go down to the wire on the final day of the season.
They are set to face Al Khaleej on Monday while simultaneously hoping that Odion Ighalo‘s Al-Wehda stumble in their match against Al Ettifaq on the same day.
Currently, Ighalo and his Al-Wehda teammates hold a two-point advantage over Al Akhdoud, setting up a dramatic final day showdown in the Saudi Pro League relegation battle, ignited by Godwin’s crucial goal.
