Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has found a new home at Galatasaray, but his mission in Turkey isn’t just about scoring goals—it’s even more personal than we thought.
The Nigerian striker, who has taken the Turkish Super Lig by storm, has now opened up about why winning the title means more to him than ever, Footballrover reports.
From an unexpected phone call to a deep connection with the club’s history, his Galatasaray journey is one of passion, ambition, and a burning desire to prove a point.
‘I feel more at home than anywhere else’ – Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray love story
The transfer to Galatasaray was never just about football for Victor Osimhen. It started with a call from head coach Okan Buruk while Osimhen was watching a Galatasaray game.
The conversation wasn’t about money; it was about the club’s legacy, the passionate fans, and a vision that resonated with him instantly.
His admiration for Galatasaray was already deep-rooted, influenced by legends like Didier Drogba who once wore the famous jersey.
“I got a call from Okan Buruk. I was watching the Galatasaray-Young Boys match a week ago. I was already watching them all the time. My idols, like Drogba, were wearing the Galatasaray jersey. They were away.
“Coach Okan said to me, ‘We are flying out now. I will call you in an hour or two. Then he called and told me about the project. We hadn’t even talked about money yet. I saw his passion for the game,” Osimhen shared while speaking to Obi Podcast as quoted by Forza Cimbom.
“He told me about everything: the city, the fans. The more I talked to him, the more interested I became. I started to get curious. I said, ‘Let’s do it. Coach Okan said, ‘Victor, are you serious?”
“Galatasaray is the best in Türkiye. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world. The symbol of the club is a lion; that’s how I see myself,”
Since arriving, the 25-year-old has been unstoppable, contributing 17 league goals and a total of 28 goal involvements across all competitions.
But beyond the stats, it’s the emotional connection that fuels him.
“I feel more at home at Galatasaray than anywhere else… I’ve never experienced anything like it before,” he admitted.
The personal mission driving Victor Osimhen’s Turkish Super Lig ambition
While many see Osimhen’s move as a career step, for him, it’s much bigger. He wants to win the Turkish Super Lig not just for the club alone, but for himself as well.
“I want to be champions with Galatasaray. I need to give a clear message to some people. This is a personal matter for me,” he revealed, hinting at an undisclosed motivation driving his hunger for success.
His journey hasn’t been without challenges.
“I need to find my rhythm. I haven’t fully adapted yet, but I’m working on it,” he admitted, referencing his developing chemistry with teammates like Dries Mertens.
“He’s one of the players I enjoy playing with the most on the field. When I go for a run, he knows exactly where to pass the ball.”
Yet, his relentless fighting spirit remains intact.
“I’m trying to get back to 100% form. I still have a lot to give. Even if I don’t score goals, I can still fight for Galatasaray. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
As the season nears its climax, Osimhen’s focus is clear: bringing the title home.
“All I want is for the team to win. If we win, I will be the happiest person in the team.”
With Galatasaray leading the league, his dream is closer than ever.
One thing is certain—Osimhen’s Galatasaray love story is far from over. And if he lifts the Turkish Super Lig trophy, it won’t just be another achievement; it will be the ultimate fulfillment of a personal mission.
