Just when it seemed like Sekhukhune United and Arab Contractors would have to settle for less, Chibuike Ohizu and Charles Ekpenyong stepped up as game-changers, sealing crucial victories with their match-winning goals.
Ohizu left it late to rescue Sekhukhune United in South Africa, while Ekpenyong’s first-half strike ensured Arab Contractors stayed in the title race in Egypt, Footballrover reports.
But how did it all unfold?
Chibuike Ohizu’s last-minute magic lift Sekhukhune United
Coming off a disappointing loss to Richards Bay FC, Sekhukhune United needed a response, and Chibuike Ohizu delivered in dramatic fashion.
The 28-year-old forward started on the bench against Marumo Gallants but was introduced in the second half to inject energy into the attack.
The first half ended goalless, but three minutes after the restart, Linda Mntambo put Sekhukhune ahead.
However, their lead was short-lived as Junior Dion equalised for the hosts in the 64th minute.
As the clock ticked towards stoppage time, the match seemed destined for a draw—until Ohizu produced a moment of brilliance.
In the 94th minute, he capitalised on a late opportunity, firing home the winner that sealed a 2-1 victory for Sekhukhune United at Thohoyandou Stadium.
With this win, Sekhukhune United climbed to third on the log with 34 points from 22 games.
Ohizu, who has now scored in back-to-back matches, will be looking to extend his fine form when they face Stellenbosch next.
Charles Ekpenyong shines as Arab Contractors edge Asyut Petroleum
While Ohizu was the hero in South Africa, Charles Ekpenyong stole the show in Egypt’s Second Division.
The 20-year-old winger was the difference-maker for Arab Contractors in a tense 1-0 home victory over Asyut Petroleum.
Ekpenyong found the net in the 24th minute, delivering a composed finish that ultimately proved decisive.
Despite Asyut Petroleum’s efforts to mount a comeback, Arab Contractors held firm to secure all three points.
The result pushed them up to second place with 46 points, just two behind league leaders Wadi Degla.
After bouncing back from a previous defeat to Pyramids, Ekpenyong and his teammates will now set their sights on maintaining their momentum in the title chase.
