Nigeria’s journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is hanging by a thread, and Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen is not mincing words.
The Super Eagles have struggled in the qualifiers, and with time running out, Osimhen has issued a strong warning, Footballrover reports.
The Napoli star believes past achievements mean nothing if the team does not correct its mistakes.
But can Nigeria turn things around before it’s too late?
Victor Osimhen warns Super Eagles: Urgent call for change
The Super Eagles have endured a rocky start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, securing just three draws in their opening four matches.
This disappointing run has left them trailing Group C leaders Rwanda by four points.
With a crucial fixture against the Wasps in Kigali on March 21, Osimhen has urged his teammates to wake up.
“There’s a new manager now, and we are desperately looking forward to the game against Rwanda to correct all our previous mistakes,” Osimhen told BBC Sports.
After missing Nigeria’s last two qualifiers due to injury, Osimhen is expected to return for the must-win clash.
Despite the team’s struggles, he remains confident in their ability to bounce back under newly appointed coach Eric Chelle, who took over in January as the first non-Nigerian African to lead the squad.
Super Eagles must prove their worth, says Osimhen
Osimhen knows the pain of missing a World Cup. The Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for Qatar 2022 was a bitter pill to swallow, and he doesn’t want history to repeat itself.
“People say we have a talented generation, but we can only confirm this talent when we play in a World Cup like those before us,” Osimhen stated.
The striker has warned against complacency, emphasizing that effort, focus, and determination will decide Nigeria’s fate.
“Names no longer win matches—you must be ready and switched on for the entire game. We are playing for our country, our family names, and the hopes of almost 300 million people,” he added.
With upcoming matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, the Super Eagles must step up or risk another painful World Cup absence.
The battle is far from over, but as Victor Osimhen insists, the time for excuses is long gone.
