In-form Nigerian forward Saviour Godwin delivered yet another clutch performance in the Saudi Pro League, netting the winning goal that handed Al Akhdoud a gritty 1-0 victory against Al Kholood on Wednesday evening.
The lone goal came in the 67th minute at the Ar-Rass Stadium, as the 28-year-old attacker capitalised on a precise assist from Pato to break the deadlock and secure three vital points for his side with a simple tap-in, Footballrover reports.
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong was on the opposite end of the pitch for Al Kholood, but it was Saviour Godwin who stole the show in this hard-fought Round 29 encounter of the Saudi top flight.
Saviour Godwin keeps Al Akhdoud’s momentum alive
Coming off back-to-back draws against Al Taawoun and Al Shabab, Al Akhdoud entered the match eager to return to winning ways.
The tension was noticeable in the first half, with both sides locked in a goalless draw.
But in typical fashion, Saviour Godwin rose to the occasion.
His clinical finish not only broke the deadlock but also reaffirmed his importance to Al Akhdoud against Al Kholood, where his relentless drive made the difference in a match of fine margins.
Al Akhdoud climb up the table with Saviour Godwin’s brilliance
The win marks Al Akhdoud’s third victory in their last five outings, extending their unbeaten run to five matches.
With that result, they now sit 12th on the table with 31 points—three ahead of Al Kholood, who trails in 15th place.
For Saviour Godwin, it was his sixth league goal of the season, taking his total goal contributions to eight (six goals, two assists) in 26 appearances.
As the season nears its end with five games left, his consistency could prove crucial in Al Akhdoud’s battle for mid-table stability.
Next up, Al Akhdoud will face Odion Ighalo’s Al Wehda in what promises to be another intense outing.
And with Godwin firing on all cylinders, they’ll head into the clash full of belief in him.
