It was indeed another action-packed weekend for Nigerian players abroad, and two names stood out: Philip Azango and Francis Ezeh.
From Slovakia to Turkey, Portugal, and beyond, the Super Eagles hopefuls were in the thick of the action and kept making headlines with goals, assists, and match-winning moments, Footballrover reports.
Philip Azango Shines in Spartak Trnava’s Thrilling Away Win
Philip Azango continued his fine run of form in the Slovakia Nike Liga as he provided an assist in Spartak Trnava’s emphatic 4-1 away win over KFC Komarno.
The 28-year-old midfielder has now recorded back-to-back goal contributions, making it one goal and one assist in just four appearances this season.
Azango, who played 86 minutes, delivered the second goal of the encounter as ten-man Spartak Trnava proved too strong for their hosts at the Štadión FC ViOn.
Despite Cedric Badolo’s straight red card shortly after replacing Stefan Skrbo, the visitors had already built a commanding lead.
First-half goals from Michal Duris and a brace from Skrbo put them firmly in control before Roman Prochazka’s penalty sealed the 4-1 victory.
Francis Ezeh Scores Again, but Keçiörengücü Fall Short
At the Bolu Atatürk Stadyumu, Francis Ezeh continued his hot streak in front of goal with his third strike in as many games for Keçiörengücü.
The 27-year-old forward gave his side the early lead in their 1. Lig Round 3 clash against Boluspor, but it wasn’t enough to secure points.
Keçiörengücü crumbled in the second half, falling to a narrow 2-1 defeat that left their travelling fans disappointed.
While Ezeh opened the scoring, his compatriot Rasheed Akanbi, who came on in the second half for Boluspor, had the last laugh as his team celebrated all three points.
More Nigerian Players Abroad Deliver the Goods
In the Czech Republic, Emmanuel Uchenna turned hero for Sparta Praha in their 3-2 win over Dukla Praha.
The 21-year-old defender scored in both halves, grabbing his second goal of the season after going 12 games without a single contribution last campaign.
Uchenna’s opening strike and match-winner proved decisive in a tight Chance Liga Round 6 encounter at the Epet Arena.
Morufdeen Moshood made a decisive impact off the bench in Portugal’s Liga 3.
Coming on in the 65th minute, the 21-year-old forward scored in the 75th to give Leixões a crucial 3-2 home win over Penafiel.
His strike proved vital as Leixões survived a late scare to secure maximum points at the Estádio do Mar.
Jonathan Okoronkwo finally opened his scoring account for Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
The 21-year-old forward struck in the 45th minute during their 1-1 away draw against Umraniyespor at the Ümraniye Hekimbaşı Şehir Stadyumu.
It was his first goal of the season after three attempts. The game turned heated as both sides ended with ten men following two straight red cards apiece.
Over in Portugal, Babatunde Akinsola featured for 56 minutes and provided a crucial assist in AFS’s 2-2 away draw against Braga in Liga 1.
The 22-year-old forward, still searching for his first goal of the season, delivered his second assist in three games, setting up the equaliser that brought his team level at 1-1.
Despite AFS leading 2-1 at halftime, Akinsola was subbed off for Guilherme Neiva, and the contest eventually finished in a stalemate.
From Philip Azango’s creative touch in Slovakia to Francis Ezeh’s clinical finishing in Turkey, it was another weekend where Nigerian players abroad proved their quality across different European leagues.
With Emmanuel Uchenna, Morufdeen Moshood, Jonathan Okoronkwo, and Babatunde Akinsola also on the scoresheet or assisting, the Super Eagles’ talent pool continues to look bright ahead of the FIFA international break.
