Cyriel Dessers celebrates goal for Rangers in UCL qualifiers

Man of the moment, Cyriel Dessers, has continued from where he left off last season, grabbing a goal and an assist to inspire his team Rangers to a well-deserved victory over Viktoria Plzeň during their Champions League qualification round 3 clash on Tuesday evening.

While Dessers earned the spotlight, his compatriot Rafiu Durosinmi fired blank and was completely caged throughout the game.

He was later substituted in the 65th minute, with Prince Adu taking his place.

The goals came early for the Scottish Premiership side as Dessers received a pass from Djeidi Gassama at the edge of the box and dropped a wicked ball between the defence for Gassama to slot home and hand hosts the lead.

Djeidi Gassama, who is gradually winning over the Gers faithful, now boasts three goals in three consecutive European games.

His strike gave the hosts an early advantage and set the tone for a dominant evening.

Just at the stroke of half-time, Oliver Antman’s dangerous run earned the hosts a penalty.

And who else to take it than the Nigerian goal machine? Dessers, who delivered 29 goals and six assists last season, calmly dispatched the spot kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and doubling the lead for the Scottish giants.

Plzeň’s hope of a comeback vanished completely early in the second half. Gassama found the net yet again in the 50th minute, this time from a brilliant move.

Max Aarons played the ball in behind the Plzeň defence, and Oliver Antman used his speed to burst down the right wing and deliver a pinpoint cross.

Gassama met it with a close-range header, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

After a perfect job well done, Dessers made way for Danilo for the remainder of the game.

The scoreline remained unchanged, and the game ended 3-0 in favour of the home team.

Both sides will meet again next week on Tuesday by 6:00 p.m. A win or draw will see Dessers and his teammates cruise into the UEFA Champions League, while Plzeň will drop to the Europa League.
