Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has honoured the Rivers Angels with a ₦25 million reward for their recent success in the Women’s President Federation Cup finals.
The Governor announced the prize when he hosted the champions at the Government House, showering them with not only praise but also a significant financial reward, Footballrover reports.
The celebration wasn’t limited to the women’s team. Rivers United’s U17 squad, fresh off their victory in the NPFL Youth League, received a well-deserved ₦30 million cash prize.
A Governor Beaming with Pride
Governor Fubara couldn’t contain his excitement as a wave of trophies and medals flooded the banquet hall.
Representatives from Rivers United U17 Youth League, Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club, Rivers Angels Football Club, Rivers Table Tennis Team, Judo, Chess, Volleyball, Paralysis, and Hockey teams all presented their hard-earned hardware.
Fubara: “You Are Making Us Proud!”
Overwhelmed by the collective success, Fubara expressed his immense pride in the athletes.
He pledged more support, highlighting the role they all play in bringing glory to the state.
“You are making us proud. We will be encouraged to support you more. We will support you to ensure that you go places,” Governor Fubara said.
Fubara admitted that financial rewards were just a piece of the puzzle.
He lauded the team for their spirit and love for Rivers State, qualities that fueled their victories on the national stage.
The governor acknowledged the transformative power of sports.
He envisioned increased investment in sports programmes as a powerful tool for youth engagement and crime reduction.
This recognition comes after Rivers Angels’ 1-0 victory over Naija Ratels in the Federation Cup finals.
Earlier, the Jewels of Rivers received ₦25m for winning the FA Cup, while Naija Ratels got ₦10m as runners-up.
Individual awards of ₦1 million were also given to the highest goal scorer, MVP, and best goalkeeper in the men’s and women’s PFC categories.
