Sporting Lagos coach Paul Offor has revealed why Lobi Stars are currently at the top of the NPFL table after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in their hands over the weekend.
It was a disappointing evening for the NPFL newcomers at the Lafia City Stadium as they suffered their third defeat of the season against league leaders Lobi Stars, Footballrover reports
After asserting themselves in the game and testing Sporting Lagos goalie Christian Nwoke with few attempts, the home team ultimately reaped the rewards.
Centre-back Sunday Chinedu elevated above the rest to connect with Orji Kalu’s cross from the corner kick, scoring in the 29th minute.
Despite falling behind, the Noisy Lagosians displayed resilience, attempting to equalise. Substitute Godwin Udoh consistently tested the Lobi Stars goalie, but each time he was thwarted.
Jonathan Alukwu also had a few opportunities, but it simply wasn’t his day to find the back of the net, as the score reads 1-0 after the final whistle.
While reacting after a defeat to the NPFL league leaders, Sporting Lagos Head Coach Paul Offor said
“We saw the qualities of Lobi Stars, and that’s why they are on top of the league.”
This result leaves the Lagosians still in pursuit of their first victory away from home in the NPFL.
Sunday’s defeat against Lobi Stars means they have slipped three places to 9th, still on 11 points.
Their next fixture brings them back to Onikan Stadium on Sunday, November 19, where they’ll host former NPFL winners Heartland of Owerri.
